Golden Temple History:

Efforts were taken to build the temple by a woman devotee Sakthi Amma.  Crossing the road from this golden temple, there is a thatched roof hut housing Swayambu Narayani and another Narayani in a temple nearby.  This temple is revered as Narayani Peetam.  Founder of the temple Sakthi Amma is in this temple.  Before leaving the place, devotes seek her blessings.  All the devotees are fed by the temple both in midday and night.

The Golden Temple was built in a short span of 7 years. It was inaugurated on August 24, 2007. The consecration ceremony was witnessed by thousands of devotees. Since then, the temple has attracted hundreds of thousands of devotees; often breaching the 1 lakh mark on special occasions. The temple has also changed the face of Thiruamalaikodi village and the nearby town - Vellore. In the coming years, the temple envisages to create a positive influence on the society and ultimately bring about a change.

More than 400 gold and coppersmiths from the Tirupathi Thirumala Devasthanam are said to have worked for six years to craft the Rs. 600-crore golden temple located on 55,000 sq ft of land on a 100-acre salubrious stretch in Malaikodi, about 6 km from Vellore in north Tamil Nadu. According to official sources, the gold bars were purchased through RBI in "a transparent manner"

First the coppersmiths set to work creating a copper base on the temple structure with engravings and etchings before the gold, beaten into nine layers of foils, was draped around it. The sanctum sanctorum will hold the deity of Mahalakshmi made of stone granite, but covered with gold protection layers. (Kavacham - adornments).
This is a temple covering 100 acres, every inch of land reminding the beauty of nature and the grace of Almighty and a spiritual environment.  Indeed, it is a different world altogether.  The mandap and the artificial fountains opposite welcome the devotee.  Besides the two pathways to go in and come out, there are 18 entrances behind the mandap representing the 18 characters of the human mind.  The temple is designed according to Sri Chakra star lines.  The temple is in round shape.  It looks as if a Sri Chakra when viewed from the upper side.

Due to security and maintenance concerns, the devotee has to deposit his/her cell phone, camera and other articles including eatables at the entrance office.  Every corner and part of the temple speaks but beauty and serenity.  Modern lights along with traditional stone lights make even night a day in the temple.  There are more than 3,000 trees around.  The wind blows soft.  Loose talks are prohibited within the temple till the devotee comes out after worship.
Devotees are advised to maintain silence.  The temple by itself built with gold, even the paintings in other parts as decorative arches and madaps are of golden color making the temple glitter forever.  There is a 27 feet tall, 10 tier traditional lamp opposite to Mother’s shrine made of Panchaloka, an alloy of five metals.  This has space for lighting thousand lamps.  There are statues of Mothers Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswathi in the meadows of the temple with artificial hills and falls.
