Sri Ardhagiri Veeranjaneya Swamy Temple

Sri Ardhagiri Veeranjaneya Swamy Temple has its origin attributed to one of the most important event at Ramayana. It’s the occasion at which Veeranjaneya Swamy carried the Sanjeevana Parvatha to the battle-place to save the life of Sri Lakshmana. This ancient temple is located on the luscious hills of the Aragonda village, Chitoor District. And it is at a around 16 KM drive-away distance from the South India's most famous Ganesha temple from Kanipakam.

Significance of Sri Ardhagiri Veeranjaneya Swamy Temple

As we mentioned earlier, the origin of this temple is intricately connected to one of the most glorious Purana in Ramayana – the Lord Hanuman carries the Sanjeevani Parvatha to save his beloved swami's brother – Lakshmana. It signifies the immense power and hefty devotion towards his Lord's Rama. According to legends, while the Lord Veeranjaneya Swamy was carrying the Sanjeevani Parvatha, a part of the rock nearly broke-off and fell at the location of the temple. This place later came to be known by the name Aragonda. Today there exists a big tank, where the water has come into contact with the divine Sanjeevini Medicinal plant. Even after thousands of years, the water still holds the extraordinary power to cure almost all the diseases known to mankind. This water has proven its capacity to cure the extreme cases of acute diseases such as TB, asthma, cancer & joint pains. This water also has proven rejuvenating capacity against lethargy, fatigue and other physical discomfort.

Arthagiri Pushkarini
In Ardhagiri, it is believed that Sanjeevaraya Pushkarini (pond containing the holy water) never gets dried nor spoiled, even when kept for long periods of time. When devotees drink this theerham (or holy water) from the Sanjeevaraya Pushkarini, all types of diseases are getting cured.
Location: Aragonda Village (just 0.5 kms from that village)

Specialties at the Sri Ardhagiri Veeranjaneya Swamy Temple

The Main deity takes a north-facing posture. While this not a typical direction the lord assumes at a temple, this direction is pointing towards the field of battle. According to legends, this is the direction Sri Veeranjaneya assumed while flying back to the battlefield carrying the Sanjeevani the medicine. It’s also believed that the temple direction allows the sun gods to play homage to the bravery and devotion of Sri Veeranjaneya Swamy.

The special temple architecture allows the oblong rays of the sun to pass through the structure and fall only on the feet of the Lord Anjaneya. As the day progresses the sun rays strike each and every portion of the head, but finally disappearing beyond the head region.
